Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

The Magdalen I. Iskra District of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, joined hands with members of the Sacred Heart Wilkes-Barre Foundation and the fraternal benefit societies Slovak Catholic Sokol and First Catholic Slovak Union to volunteer their services to the church community of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The project consisted of the cleanup of the grounds of the Church, the former school and the convent located on North Main and Madison Streets in Wilkes-Barre in preparation for the celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the dedication of the Church on May 30, 2008. The turnout was impressive, and a lot of teamwork was accomplished in the hours of volunteerism by the children and adults, which made a difference in the community.

At the completion of the project, Senior Branch 172 served hoagies and beverages to the volunteers, all of whom enjoyed the treat.
