{"id":393,"date":"2013-09-10T12:22:22","date_gmt":"2013-09-10T12:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fcsla.org\/district\/chicago-news\/?p=393"},"modified":"2013-09-10T12:22:22","modified_gmt":"2013-09-10T12:22:22","slug":"branch-s485-member-amanda-siedschlag%e2%80%99s-research-experience-at-the-university-of-oregon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fcsla.com\/district\/chicago-news\/2013\/09\/10\/branch-s485-member-amanda-siedschlag%e2%80%99s-research-experience-at-the-university-of-oregon\/","title":{"rendered":"Branch S485 member Amanda Siedschlag\u2019s Research Experience at the University of Oregon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amanda Siedschlag worked this summer in Professor Geraldine Richmond\u2019s chemistry lab at the University of Oregon, as part of the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supported by the National Science Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fcsla.org\/district\/chicago-news\/files\/2013\/09\/Amanda-in-Chem-lab-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-394\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fcsla.org\/district\/chicago-news\/files\/2013\/09\/Amanda-in-Chem-lab-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fcsla.com\/district\/chicago-news\/files\/2013\/09\/Amanda-in-Chem-lab-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.fcsla.com\/district\/chicago-news\/files\/2013\/09\/Amanda-in-Chem-lab-2.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amanda\u2019s project involved research into developing more efficient thin-film solar cell materials. \u00a0The study builds upon well-established silicon solar cell technology, but uses thin film absorbers to enhance the conversion efficiency of sunlight to electricity. \u00a0During her 10\u00a0weeks in the Richmond lab, Amanda focused on fabricating thin films and developing synthetic methods to make films that work more efficiently.
