Anna Hurban Chicago District Celebrates Scholars at Annual Luncheon

Continuing a proud and long-standing fraternal tradition, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (FCSLA)  Anna Hurban Chicago District gathered on Saturday, June 20, to honor its local scholarship recipients and celebrate their academic achievements.

The annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon brought together student winners, their families, and district branch officers for an afternoon of recognition, Slavic heritage, and community fellowship.

The luncheon serves as the district’s premier event to recognize the hard work and scholastic excellence of its young members. Thanks to the  national scholarship program,  generous awards are made annually to eligible members ranging from elementary and high school students to those pursuing college and graduate degrees.

The Chicago District pride was on full display as the class of scholars was called to the podium. Each attending student was presented with an official certificate, a traditional rose, and an FCSLA keepsake notebook to commemorate their achievement. In keeping with district custom, the scholars were also invited to sign the FCSLA Chicago District Scholarship Book, adding their names to a legacy of academic excellence.

Beyond the formal award presentations, the event highlighted the strong community bonds in the Chicago District. Attendees enjoyed a warm, family-style lunch featuring traditional Slavic dishes and spent time catching up across generations of fraternal families.

Following the presentation of the awards, National Sales Manager, Paul Smithers, addressed the group and focused on financial literacy and youth engagement. The district transitioned into its regular business meeting following lunch to chart out future community events, charitable initiatives, and branch gatherings for the coming year.

“The Chicago District is incredibly proud of all our scholarship winners,” noted district leadership during the closing remarks. “We wish them continued success in their studies and look forward to seeing them lead our fraternal family into the future
