Anna Hurban District of Chicago hosts 2nd annual summer in the park family picnic

On Saturday, August 5th, members of the Anna Hurban Chicago District and their guests gathered at Kathryn Legge Memorial Park in Hinsdale, IL for the 2nd annual “Summer in the Park” celebration. Initiated last year, this summertime family picnic gave all a chance to relax in a beautiful park surrounded by fraternal friends, food and games.

There was intermittent rain all day, but the weather did not dampen the spirits of the members who came out to enjoy the afternoon under the pavilion in the park. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch of fried chicken, beef sandwiches, a healthy variety of grilled vegetables, garden salad, fruit bowls and grilled potatoes. Snacks and dessert choices rounded out the menu. Complimentary bingo, a split the pot cash raffle, and a bags lawn game provided the entertainment.

The fun culminated in a “teams of two”- based shaving cream and cheese puffs game, in which one player tosses cheese puffs attempting to hit their partner’s shaving cream loaded head. (shower caps were provided)! Traditionally played on the lawn, playing this game under the shelter of the pavilion while the rain fell provided an even more challenging and entertaining way to end the day’s activities.

Many thanks to the Chicago District Board, and Barbara Schultz, branch S285, for planning such a wonderful event! All who attended had a wonderful time catching up with their fraternal friends and spending a relaxed Saturday summer afternoon in the park.
